Vessels" CARGO/PASSENGER: These are ocean going ships that have priority cargo and can accommodate about, 100 passengers. There are very few left in the world. FERRYLINER: these are the large ferries that cover Europe like a fog. They are sailing from every port, every day. A great way to travel thru Europe. They are very modem with: discos, shops, lounges, super- markets, deluxe restaurants. They are inexpensive and allow you to sleep in a lounge chair or curt up on deck. Small cabins are available. There are some sailing from Washington to Alaska. FREIGHTER: The romantic and cheap way to travel that you have read about all of your life. Today the big Cargo ships are very modem and ate hot too excited about, passengers. The price is no longer cheap. The per day cost is close to the average cruise ship. You must be in good physical condition. A doctors permit if over 60. There are only 12 passengers allowed. This means, no doctor on board. There is nothing to do but read and play cards. They do not sail on a schedule, you must be very flexible on time. Bookings are hard to get and must be made long in advance. MINI CRUISERS: These are the ultra modern little ships that sail into those places a big ship can't get into. They are finally becoming popular in America. They are shallow draft vessels and can get light up on the beach. Many of them have a bow ramp that drops down on the shore. I find the food to be very good and well served. The entertainment is generally obtained locally at the ports of call. They provide a marvelous way to leisurely see our coastal areas and waterways. PASSENGER SHIPS: These are vessels whose main function is to carry passengers. They have facilities for overnight accommodations for the passengers. They are generally called Cruise Ships. RIVER BOAT: These are tile shallow draft passenger vessels that sail on the rivers of the world. They have cabins for passengers and travel overnight or longer. Of course we all know that a REAL RIVER BOAT is the kind we have seen in the movies and that Mark Twain sailed on those beautiful boats with the big paddle wheels on the stern. There are only 5 of these in the USA, only the Delta Queen and the Mississippi Queen have overnight cabin service.
